Meatsyys cool island

Hi Welcome back to my blog for the past few weeks we have been making a island for PBL you could rather make a minecraft island and paper mache and a 3D model and then a map my map was called Meatsyys Cool Island On the island there are lots of metamorphic rocks. It rains one to five times a year and it is quite hot. It doesn’t go below 25 degrees celsius.  The river contains one massive electric eel but it is friendly to the people that go there. There is no pollution so the air is fresh and it is easy to breathe. The soil is silty with lots of flowers. There are life forms such as bees and other insects. Link to planning doc

Do you like PBL at your school?

Scary skyscrapers

This week in reading, we have been reading about towers. We got to design our own tower. The two structures i read about are called burj khalifa and KVLY TV Mast. Two facts i learnt were that, The KVLY-TV mast was completed in 1963 and Taipei 101 was the tallest building until 2010 before Burj Khalifa was built. My learning goal was to Make connections between texts Identify some text events and features, and discuss what they make the reader think about. For my create we had to Design your own tower on google drawings. Consider the following; location, height, and purpose. Will your tower share any similar features with the ones you read about?

Do you like tall towers?

Why do we need water?

This week for reading we have been reading about natural resources. I learnt that there are 2 types of water, fresh water (good to drink), salt water (bad to drink). My learning goal is to identify  several ideas, discuss the author’s stance or purpose, and understand relationships is the text.

I learnt about water. One fact I learnt is that 2.5% is fresh water and 97.5% is salt water.

I chose to learn about water because you need water to live and if we didn’t have water we wouldn’t be able to survive.

How could you conserve water in your own house?

Haka Reading

For reading this week we got to choose 3 reading activities.  I am going to share my Haka reading. For the Haka Reading we had to watch some videos about the haka and also read about it. Me and Campbell did an interview and he asked me questions. These are the questions:

  1. When was the haka first created?
  2. What is the haka?
  3. Why is it  important?
  4. When did NZ first perform it?
  5. Do they perform the haka overseas and at home games? Has it always been this way?
  6. What is the name of the most famous haka and what story does it tell?
  7. What is the name of the special All Blacks haka and what does it represent?

Here is our video:

The reading goal was: Learning Identify several ideas, discuss the author’s stance or purpose, and understand relationships in the text.

Don’t sit if you want to keep fit

This Week we have been reading Don’t sit if you want to keep fit. Our reading goal was to identify some text events and discuss what they make the reader think about.

I learnt that it is more healthy to stand then sit, for example I learnt if you sit down for to long your muscles become less flexible and if you stand up you muscles become more flexible.

If you work at an office you should get a standing desk This will make you more healthy.

How much sitting do you do in a day?

How can we be Champions of Peace?

For the last four weeks of Term 3 we were learning about ‘How we can be Champions on Peace’.

Firstly we learnt about the different symbols of peace. Some of these are peace sign with your fingers and the ying yang symbol.

These symbols represent peace because the peace sign makes a V and it stands for Victory.

With these symbols in mind I created a Peace Artwork. My Peace Artwork represents peace because The Koru is a spiral shape inspired by the form of an unfurling silver fern frond. Some believe that the Koru symbolises growth, peace and new beginnings, while others hold that its balanced shape represents a state of harmony in life.

We also researched some real life champions of peace and wrote a short biography. I wrote about Martin Luther King Jr. I thought this person was a champion of peace because made speeches and stood up to racism. Read my writing HERE.

We also created a peace prayer book. I have attached my peace prayer book below.

I enjoyed learning about peace because we need more peace in the world. I learnt about the symbols of peace and that peace is important because it makes the world a better place.

One way I plan on being a champion of peace is by helping the homeless by giving them food.

Camp reflection

On Monday the 10th of September Kaupeka year 7’s headed away to camp for two nights and three days. We went to Wainui camp. It took about an hour and a half to get there on the bus.

When we got to camp the first thing we did was we found out our bunk room then we ate then our first activity  was self lead games.

My activity group was made up of Me, Caleb, Danu, Neve, Zoe, Francesca, Lauren, and Evie. Our activity leader was Dave who was Evies dad.

I have created a poster to showcase and reflect on my time at camp.

I created my poster using google drawings here it is.

Have you ever been on school camp?

Super Science

Hello and welcome back to my blog

One of the experiments we did was: We had to make a light with play-Doh we had a battery and we had to stick these things into the Play-Doh to power the light.

Materials needed: Play-Doh, Battery, clay, wires, light.

Before conducting my experiment I thought that the light would not turn on when I plugged the wires into the play-doh and when I did do that the light started flickering but it never actually stayed lightened up.

After finishing my experiment I found out that my hypothesis was correct because my light did not light up when I stuck the wires into the play-doh.

Out of all the experiments we did I really enjoyed doing the play-doh and the light because it was fun sticking the wires into different places of the play-doh to see if the light would light up in different places.

Would you try this at home?

Exciting Poem writing

Kia ora,

Over the first few weeks of Term 3 we have been reading and writing all different types of poetry. Please enjoy reading my poetry.

List Poem: I discovered that a list poem is a poetic form that presents ideas, images, or emotions through a series of items or descriptions. It was interesting to learn about words that describe rugby. Check out my list poem here:

Limericks: I learned that a limerick is a humorous five-line poem with a distinctive rhyme scheme and a bouncy rhythm. I also learned that limericks can be funny. I enjoyed writing this limerick because it is about fishing and I like fishing.

Blackout Poetry: I discovered that Blackout poetry is the art of selectively erasing words from existing texts to create new poetic compositions. It was interesting to pick my words from the text that I used. Check out my poem:

Biographical Poetry: A biographical poem is a poem that explains yourself. See mine here:

I really enjoyed poems for the past two weeks. I like that some of them rhyme and some were funny.

Questions:

What is something new you learned about poetry from my blog?

Which poem stood out to you the most and why?
